Uzbekistan strengthens control over the quality of consumer goods and protection of IP rights

Pursuant to Presidential Resolution No. DP-110 "On additional measures aimed at providing the population with high-quality consumer goods" of April 4, 2023, Uzbekistan has adopted supplementary measures to guarantee the provision of high-quality consumer goods for customers. This encompasses reinforcing the oversight of product quality and incorporating numerous modifications and advancements.

The main points of the resolution include the development and approval of a procedure for conducting test purchases in relation to legal violations associated with the infringement of IP rights, as well as the adoption of measures to integrate the National Information System for monitoring the labeling and tracking of products "Asl belgisi" with the Digital Data Platform of the "E-Government" system.

In addition, it is established that starting from August 1, 2023, the possession of a certificate of registration of trademarks for alcoholic products by the Ministry of Justice in the prescribed manner is a licensing requirement for the production of alcoholic products.

The Ministry of Justice is tasked with developing and submitting a procedure for conducting test purchases in relation to legal violations associated with the infringement of IP rights.

Such measures are expected to strengthen control over the production and circulation of counterfeit goods and enhance the level of IP rights protection in Uzbekistan, which will contribute to economic growth and the development of the IP industry in the country.
