On 10 July 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan adopted Resolution No. 427, introducing new administrative regulations to streamline public services in the field of intellectual property.
New IP regulations adopted in Uzbekistan
The resolution approves the following administrative procedures:
- Registration of agreements related to intellectual property objects (IP agreements);
- Registration of topographies of integrated circuits;
- Registration of appellations of origin and the right to use them.
These updated procedures clearly define the steps for submitting applications, processing documents, and set specific timeframes for the provision of services. The changes aim to eliminate bureaucratic obstacles and make IP-related services more efficient.
Electronic submission for IP applications
One of the key improvements is the transition to electronic submission of applications and supporting documents. This applies to all stages of the registration process:
- For residents of Uzbekistan – applications can be submitted through the Ministry of Justice’s specialized portal (im.adliya.uz) or via the Unified Portal of Interactive Public Services;
- For non-residents – applications must be submitted through the specialized portal only.
Importantly, the requirement to provide original hard copies of intellectual property agreements has been removed, further reducing administrative barriers.
Improved access to IP services across Uzbekistan
These reforms are expected to significantly improve access to IP registration services for applicants across all regions of Uzbekistan, including remote areas. Previously, applicants had to personally visit the Ministry of Justice with all documents in hand, which created logistical challenges and delays.
By digitizing the entire process, Uzbekistan is taking a major step toward modernizing its intellectual property system, reducing paperwork, and promoting equal access to IP protection services.
